Of Bands & Bucket List

I have a list of bands I watched this year - typed in my Notes. I've been keeping a list since 2011. I can't seem to remember all the bands I saw in 2010. That was a great year. I need to refresh my memory or dig up all my ticket stubs. When that fails, I need to google all the bands who graced our shores in 2010 and eliminate those I didn't see. Tedious. But it needs to be done.

Before my memory fails me, I will make an attempt (albeit a feeble one) to post a little about each concert I've been to this year. I've been horrible at keeping track and updating things. I used to be stellar in that department.

2012 is a year of crossing out band names from my bucket list. What a year. And we're only in August.

I'll make a list here. Hoping to have a centralized page to click on each concert. Starting with the most recent.

The Time of Love

I just want to dance. In the middle of the night. This Friday night.

Pre-Primavera Jitters

This is a prelude to Primavera Sound 2012, Barcelona.

The initial plan to go Europe to visit our friend in Zaragoza turned into a week of Barcelona for me. Due to my shitty job, I didn't have enough leave to join my friends to conquer Europe. In an effort (albeit weak) to make myself feel better, I console myself with "I shall save Europe for another trip." I hope it materializes.

I've been to a one day music festival. Laneway. I was shit tired after that. It's pretty daunting looking at the lineup, the different venues and timings. On top of what to bring and what to wear. Primavera Sound 2012, here I come!

I'm sweating while I type this. The humidity is unforgiving. I shall turn off the fan and switch on the aircon instead.

Strange

When words fail. When emotions are disarray. I can and will only retreat to music. I'm uncomfortable talking about things that upsets me. I'm horrible at being coherent when I'm not sure how to feel. I don't enjoy explaining myself to others when I'm uncertain. I'm happy and utterly sad at the same time. It's perplexing. I think I know why I'm sad but I can't seem to snap out of it. I'm not sure why. Which is aggravating me every day.

I found a song that describes how I feel right now.

I can't find the right words to explain or try to make others understand why I'm feeling the way I'm feeling right now. So I'm just going to leave it to Patsy Cline to help me today.

Strange, how you stopped loving me
How you stopped needing me
When she came along
Oh, how strange

Strange, you changed like night and day
Just up and walked away
When she came along
Oh, how strange

Well, I guess that I was just your puppet
You held on a string
To think I thought you really loved me
But look what thoughts can bring

Strange, you're still in all my dreams
Oh what a funny thing
I still care for you
Oh, how strange

I don't know why. I think about you every day.

Twenty Twelve

Grandeur plans for the new year? No such thing.

2011 was a terrible year. One I hope to forget. At the age of 25, I fell in love and got my heart broken.

This year, I just want myself back. I want a calmer heart. A stronger mind. I want to be okay. I don't want to beg for someone's attention and allow anyone to treat me like dirt. I deserve better. No one is worth my time or love, if they don't realize how much they mean to me.

Above all, I hope I can finally let go. Trust that I'll find another. Someone who's willing to go through great lengths for me. I know I'm willing to do so. For the right person. Sounds romantic? Honestly, I think I'm being practical.

In the meantime, I need to distance myself and keep chugging ahead. With or without your love abuse.

I hear Tokyo calling. Less than a month to go.

If a movie were being made about your life, what actress would portray you?

A question from Formspring triggered me to do a quick google search on Eva Green.

If I die, I want to come back as a second Eva Green. A lower grade Eva Green. But Eva Green nonetheless.

I think she's perfect.

Cute Boys With Cats

Because I absolutely fail at real life and guys in general - it's easier and almost comforting to turn to the internet (especially google) for a temporary state of happiness. A smile. Even for awhile.

James Dean. Playing with a siamese cat. Two of my favorite things.

My life is complete.

I can die happy.

Truly.

Bronze like a Brazillian

I ended my day by ironing.

My most hated chore in the whole wide world. So much for spending the day doing my favourite things, eating my favourite things. Not sour about it. Just merely stating. Documentating.

Egged by friends. I will start (for real, this time) to write everything and anything. Even information that is of zero value. Or so, it seems - at that point in time.

26. What have I done with my life?

Conversations With My Mum

Me: I'm depressed.
Mum: What are you depressed about?
Me: Turning 26.
Mum: What's so depressing about that?
Me: Everything.

World Cinema Series 2011: Deep End

I clicked on THIS and went, "I NEED TO WATCH THIS!"

Deep End | Jerzy Skolimowski | 1970 | Germany, USA | 89 min

Don't really know much about this movie. Plain and simple, I'm a sucker for foreign movies. Googled for more info and VOILA!

15 year old Mike works at a swimming pool. Obessessed with Susan, who also works there. Problem is, Susan is engaged but Mike still wants her. What do you get? Deep End.

I think it's pretty interesting that Deep End got shelved barely after it was released. Was it that bad? Kinda reminds me of all those awesome movies we didn't get to watch cause it didn't reach our shores (can/do we blame censorship?) which ultimately means, "Sorry folks, won't be showing that movie in our theatres." Time to go find an 'alternative' if you really want to watch the movie.

Here's some pretty photos cause I'm a visual creature. I'm a Libran for goodness sake!

Anyone want to watch this with me? :D

Submarine

Because I'm in love with a movie I haven't seen.

Typical.

This is a picspam.

I'm obsessed.

Oliver met Jordana under a bridge.

Many thanks to Julian for thinking the lead actress hair looks like mine when I had a bob (thus introducing the movie to me). I miss my bob. I miss being Zelda. But I intend to channel Francoise in 2011.

LUSH: Ultimate Shine

Ultimate Shine // Solid Shampoo Bar // LUSH

Ingredients include: ylang ylang oil and violet leaf. The smell is not for everyone. I'm not sure how to explain it exactly. I honestly didn't like the smell when I first got my hands on it. Maybe it's just me? I was however, very determined to make my hair as shiny as ever.

Surprise, surprise. It works!

Don't be fooled by the bar of soap. Once you lather it on your hair, you will get a generous amount of foam. Massage and rinse like any ordinary shampoo. My hair felt coarse after washing. Weird. But guess what, it's shinier!

Results: successful!

To soften my hair, I followed this with a conditioner: American Cream. More on that in the next post.

Gruff Rhys in Singapore, 29 April 2011

I was beyond pscyhed when I discovered that one of my idols. I repeat. IDOL. GRUFF FREAKIN RHYS!!! is performing at TAB.

I spazzed and freaked out for a few hours and went absolutely beserked on Twitter. Needless to say, it was painful to read and super embarassing, I think. But you're talking about my favourite band ever. THE band for me. I survived my torturous teenage years thanks to the Super Furry Animals. OMG I LOVE THEM LAH!

It was an intimate set (very pleased with that). I wasn't familiar with TAB. It was dark and there was already a crowd when I arrived. The tables and chairs were placed sparsely apart. I looked over at the stage. There was a table filled with random objects (which we later found out: musical instruments - according to Gruff!).

Gruff appeared 15 minutes after he was scheduled to perform. He didn't make us wait for long! Impressed albeit VERY biased. :D He started his set by asking us to scoot nearer to him. Everyone basically got up and dragged their chairs and tables to the front. Quite a sight.

Here's the thing, I was smiling like a goon throughout the concert. Cause I'm a HUGE fan. It's pretty much irrelevant to do a review. I'll just gush about him. To be honest, there was nothing to critique. I'M NOT BEING BIASED I SWEAR. Haha.. Who am I kidding?

He was funny (there were ALOT of awesome jokes).

"I would like to dedicate this song to Phil Collins. And his retirement from his solo career."

"Can we turn all the lights off? I need to create an element of suspense and built up for this song. :they switched off a few lights, leaving the front lights on: Just those lights? We can't have total darkness. Okay. I'll try to make this work."

He was also quirkier than I thought. It's like he's in his own world. Tinkering with various items on the table in front of him. It really felt like show and tell. He'll pick up one object and told us a fact/story about it.

After he went off the stage, we lingered around. Hoping to catch him. It just didn't seem right if I didn't meet the man in person. I just wanted to say thank you. Really. After waiting for about half and hour. Like total goons cause we were just standing there talking. More like a prep talk. I was nervous. My friend thought I was being ridiculous. He appeared and I went, "There he is!"

#1: Starbucks Chocolate Meringue Muffin

The second brother brought back cupcakes over the weekend. Yes. CUPCAKES! ♥

What else? Nomnomnom!

This is THE Chocolate Meringue Muffin.

Gorgeous!

The chocolate cream on top is light and freakin delicious. It literally melts in your mouth. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of dark chocolate. But the muffin seriously taste awesome. Not too bitter and not too sweet. It's a perfect balance. I'm in love with this muffin, I swear. Go taste it for yourself and tell me it's not awesome! Yes, coming at a Starbucks near you!

FYI.
The other flavour: lemon meringue
Perfect for those who prefer their dessert less sweet. Pfft!

I have found my calling! I love food. And I love to eat. :cues dramatic music: I will be the next Starbucks Food Reviewer! Albeit an unofficial one. I can make it work. I think.

I will review the cake pops next! They're already in my fridge actually. :D Wait for it.

Fascination With The Bassist

I'm trying to get work done. Who am I kidding? I think me bringing work home is as rare as a solar eclipse. That's a fact.

I've decided to 'take a break' after about an hour of trying to crunch some numbers - which is stupid. I've done this in the office. I can't find the file and the hardcopy. To save my ass, I'm redoing everything. Go me!

I got distracted (what's new?) when this started playing on my iTunes.

Here's the story. I love this band. Most importantly, I'm obsessed with the bassist. Or was. Yes, the apt word is 'was'. This was approximately five years ago. I was smitten. Wait, why do you need to know about this. Well, I don't know.

To be honest, I think I'm still smitten.

Dude is perfect, I swear. And life? Life is unfair.

Enid: You know what my number one fantasy used to be?
Seymour: What?
Enid: I used to think about one day, just not telling anyone, and going off to some random place. And I'd just... disappear. And they'd never see me again. Did you ever think about stuff like that?
Seymour: I guess I probably did when I was your age.
Enid: You know what we should do? We should just get in your car right now, and just drive off, just the two of us. Find some totally different place and start a whole new life. Fuck everybody.
Seymour: I'm uh, I'm not in any good condition to drive.
Enid: I'm serious! I'm just so sick of everybody. Why can't I just do what I want?
Seymour: What do you want?
Enid: What do *you* want?
[pause]
Enid: Don't you like me?

All Good Things [Movie]

I love it when I enter a theatre without knowing what I'm going to watch but I end up enjoying the movie. It enhances the viewing experience because (1) you have no clue what you signed up for (2) it can potentially be awesome OR horrendous (3) shit did I waste my money on the movie ticket.

We had time to kill. Watching a movie seems like a good idea. Everything was selling fast since it's a Friday night. I chose All Good Things. Simple. Ryan Gosling. The man is flawless. I'm not a fan but damn, I'm seriously intrigued by him. I don't think anyone can fully explain his allure.

I must admit. The movie was slow. If you're impatient, chances are, you're going to walk out of the cinema. Which a couple of people did. Totally unfair. I'm pretty sure they've sat through much more terrible movies than this. The dude who sat beside me exclaimed, "That's it?! Am I supposed to wait for a sequeal?!" when the credits appeared. No douche, it's over. Use your imagination - if you have one.

I personally love the cinematography albeit slightly haphazard. Especially during the beginning, when it's only David and Katie. Falling in love. Very beautifully done. If I'm screencapping the scenes in my head - I think it's an indication, it's kinda great.

If you notice, I didn't talk about the storyline. I'm pretty sure you can get it at IMDB.

Verdict: ♥♥♥ 1/2

This is a pseudo-movie review. I'm very bad at writing essays. What makes you think I'll be fabulous at reviews.
