Gruff Rhys in Singapore, 29 April 2011

I was beyond pscyhed when I discovered that one of my idols. I repeat. IDOL. GRUFF FREAKIN RHYS!!! is performing at TAB.

I spazzed and freaked out for a few hours and went absolutely beserked on Twitter. Needless to say, it was painful to read and super embarassing, I think. But you're talking about my favourite band ever. THE band for me. I survived my torturous teenage years thanks to the Super Furry Animals. OMG I LOVE THEM LAH!

It was an intimate set (very pleased with that). I wasn't familiar with TAB. It was dark and there was already a crowd when I arrived. The tables and chairs were placed sparsely apart. I looked over at the stage. There was a table filled with random objects (which we later found out: musical instruments - according to Gruff!).

Gruff appeared 15 minutes after he was scheduled to perform. He didn't make us wait for long! Impressed albeit VERY biased. :D He started his set by asking us to scoot nearer to him. Everyone basically got up and dragged their chairs and tables to the front. Quite a sight.

Here's the thing, I was smiling like a goon throughout the concert. Cause I'm a HUGE fan. It's pretty much irrelevant to do a review. I'll just gush about him. To be honest, there was nothing to critique. I'M NOT BEING BIASED I SWEAR. Haha.. Who am I kidding?

He was funny (there were ALOT of awesome jokes).

"I would like to dedicate this song to Phil Collins. And his retirement from his solo career."

"Can we turn all the lights off? I need to create an element of suspense and built up for this song. :they switched off a few lights, leaving the front lights on: Just those lights? We can't have total darkness. Okay. I'll try to make this work."

He was also quirkier than I thought. It's like he's in his own world. Tinkering with various items on the table in front of him. It really felt like show and tell. He'll pick up one object and told us a fact/story about it.

After he went off the stage, we lingered around. Hoping to catch him. It just didn't seem right if I didn't meet the man in person. I just wanted to say thank you. Really. After waiting for about half and hour. Like total goons cause we were just standing there talking. More like a prep talk. I was nervous. My friend thought I was being ridiculous. He appeared and I went, "There he is!"

#1: Starbucks Chocolate Meringue Muffin

The second brother brought back cupcakes over the weekend. Yes. CUPCAKES! ♥

What else? Nomnomnom!

This is THE Chocolate Meringue Muffin.

Gorgeous!

The chocolate cream on top is light and freakin delicious. It literally melts in your mouth. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of dark chocolate. But the muffin seriously taste awesome. Not too bitter and not too sweet. It's a perfect balance. I'm in love with this muffin, I swear. Go taste it for yourself and tell me it's not awesome! Yes, coming at a Starbucks near you!

FYI.
The other flavour: lemon meringue
Perfect for those who prefer their dessert less sweet. Pfft!

I have found my calling! I love food. And I love to eat. :cues dramatic music: I will be the next Starbucks Food Reviewer! Albeit an unofficial one. I can make it work. I think.

I will review the cake pops next! They're already in my fridge actually. :D Wait for it.

Fascination With The Bassist

I'm trying to get work done. Who am I kidding? I think me bringing work home is as rare as a solar eclipse. That's a fact.

I've decided to 'take a break' after about an hour of trying to crunch some numbers - which is stupid. I've done this in the office. I can't find the file and the hardcopy. To save my ass, I'm redoing everything. Go me!

I got distracted (what's new?) when this started playing on my iTunes.

Here's the story. I love this band. Most importantly, I'm obsessed with the bassist. Or was. Yes, the apt word is 'was'. This was approximately five years ago. I was smitten. Wait, why do you need to know about this. Well, I don't know.

To be honest, I think I'm still smitten.

Dude is perfect, I swear. And life? Life is unfair.

Enid: You know what my number one fantasy used to be?
Seymour: What?
Enid: I used to think about one day, just not telling anyone, and going off to some random place. And I'd just... disappear. And they'd never see me again. Did you ever think about stuff like that?
Seymour: I guess I probably did when I was your age.
Enid: You know what we should do? We should just get in your car right now, and just drive off, just the two of us. Find some totally different place and start a whole new life. Fuck everybody.
Seymour: I'm uh, I'm not in any good condition to drive.
Enid: I'm serious! I'm just so sick of everybody. Why can't I just do what I want?
Seymour: What do you want?
Enid: What do *you* want?
[pause]
Enid: Don't you like me?

All Good Things [Movie]

I love it when I enter a theatre without knowing what I'm going to watch but I end up enjoying the movie. It enhances the viewing experience because (1) you have no clue what you signed up for (2) it can potentially be awesome OR horrendous (3) shit did I waste my money on the movie ticket.

We had time to kill. Watching a movie seems like a good idea. Everything was selling fast since it's a Friday night. I chose All Good Things. Simple. Ryan Gosling. The man is flawless. I'm not a fan but damn, I'm seriously intrigued by him. I don't think anyone can fully explain his allure.

I must admit. The movie was slow. If you're impatient, chances are, you're going to walk out of the cinema. Which a couple of people did. Totally unfair. I'm pretty sure they've sat through much more terrible movies than this. The dude who sat beside me exclaimed, "That's it?! Am I supposed to wait for a sequeal?!" when the credits appeared. No douche, it's over. Use your imagination - if you have one.

I personally love the cinematography albeit slightly haphazard. Especially during the beginning, when it's only David and Katie. Falling in love. Very beautifully done. If I'm screencapping the scenes in my head - I think it's an indication, it's kinda great.

If you notice, I didn't talk about the storyline. I'm pretty sure you can get it at IMDB.

Verdict: ♥♥♥ 1/2

This is a pseudo-movie review. I'm very bad at writing essays. What makes you think I'll be fabulous at reviews.

Hello, I'm addicted to Twitter

I will swear off Twitter for a week.
